Many Members ask me if I write the President’s Letter every month, or is the First Lady the real author? The answer is that I write the President’s Letter, but the First Lady corrects the spelling, edits the contents, and deletes many pages. My wife was a wonderful English teacher in the public school system for over 36 years, and she was known as a tough teacher. Her nickname at school was “Mrs. Mad-scary” – and that was from the principal. She is not afraid to tell what’s on her mind (as some of you already know). I have read a few of the comments she wrote on student essays, like “Since my last report, your child has hit bottom and has started to dig,” and “The wheel is turning, but the hamster is definitely dead.” Or “The gates are down, the lights are flashing, but the train isn’t coming.” And my all-time favorite, “If this student were any more stupid, he’d have to be watered twice a week.” I won’t tell you what she writes on my letters, but she says I’m getting better. I once got a gold star and got to sleep inside.
The Fabulous Ham Raffle was a big success. I would like to thank everyone who helped make it so, especially Jim Gallagher, Diane Weber-Gallagher, Sandy Biery, Dan Driscoll, Joe Brogan, Erma Dantonio, Lara Pfeiffer, and Karen Gabryluk, along with Carol Berger and Erma Dantonio for the many gift donations they have made to our raffles. Last, but not least, I would like to thank Dianne Mascari for all her hard work to make this raffle go so smoothly. I’m getting older, but my mind still thinks I’m 25 and my body thinks my mind is an idiot. Thank you, Dianne. I couldn’t do it without you.
We have a Board of Directors election coming up on Tuesday, May 20 at 7:00 PM in the lower level meeting room. Active members can attend and vote. Associate (social) members are not permitted to vote, but they may certainly drink at the Bar and wait for the election results.
The Columbian Home Golf Tournament is on Saturday, June 14th at Shepherd Hills Golf Club. The price is $125 for your golf, lunch, lots of prizes and fun. Brochures are available at the Anchor Bar, or you can see Erma Dantonio for more information. Please join us for what promises to be a great day!
Trivia Night has been a real learning experience. Just last month, I learned that “Take out” can refer to food, dating, or murder. Who knew? Come and see Hal on Wednesday, May 21st for a lot of fun and knowledge.
On Saturday, May 31, Karaoke Night is back with Allen Newton. Plan to bring someone special to the beautiful Columbian Home for drinks, dinner, more drinks and show off your singing talent that everyone loves, except for your family, friends, your next-door neighbor, and your dog. We at the beautiful Columbian Home do not judge (maybe a little) and know you will have a good time.
The Mother’s Day Buffet will be spectacular. I just saw the menu and it looks like Mom will be very pleased. Make your reservations ASAP because this feast usually sells out – call 610-432-6333, ext. 1.
Have a safe and happy spring, and as always I will keep you in my prayers.
All the best,
Joe
